Lorrie Rutledge rejected Christian Zionist Theology

This interview with Lorrie Rutledge is over 10 years old but is even more relevant today with over 16,000 Palestinian children killed since October 7, 2023, by Israel. Lorrie woke up to the errors of her theology when she was convicted of the Israeli murder of 300 Palestinian children in Gaza during their Operation Cast Lead in 2008-9.

Lorrie Rutledge, from Michigan, was a Christian Zionist who didn’t know she was one because her pastors had told her that the modern state of Israel was the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy and deserved support by Christians, and, she never questioned them.  One day, a friend of Lorrie asked her to watch a video that showed pictures of murdered Palestinian children.  Lorrie went to work to find out if what she saw was true.  This podcast is about Lorrie’s journey out of Christian Zionism.  Don’t miss it. Silence Is Complicity: A Palestinian Call to Action (Rev. Dr. Munther Issac)

Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA), A Christian Voice for Palestine, presents Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac: "Empty calls for peace without a ceasefire and end to the occupation, and the shallow words of empathy without direct action, are all under the banner of complicity." Rev. Munther Isaac is on an eight-city speaking tour sponsored by FOSNA. This talk is his address at the Claremont Presbyterian Church in Claremont, CA on August 8, 2024. Rev. Munther addresses the silence of many U.S. churches in the face of genocide and Christian Zionism's support of apartheid in the West Bank and Gaza.

Rev. Munther Isaac is a Palestinian pastor and theologian. He now serves the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem and the Lutheran Church in Beit Sahour. He is also the academic dean of Bethlehem Bible College and director of the highly acclaimed and influential "Christ at the Checkpoint" conferences.

During the genocide in Gaza, Munther gained global attention for his sermon, "Christ under the Rubble," which was heard by tens of millions of people and subsequently quoted in South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. He has appeared on CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, MSNBC, CBS, TRT, and Democracy Now! Munther is passionate about issues related to Palestinian theology. He speaks locally and internationally and has published numerous articles on the theology of the land, Palestinian Christians, holistic mission, and reconciliation. He is the author of "The Other Side of the Wall," "From Land to Lands, from Eden to the Renewed Earth," "An Introduction to Palestinian Theology" (in Arabic), a commentary on the book of Daniel (in Arabic), and more recently a book on women's ordination, also in Arabic. He is a Kairos Palestine board member involved in many reconciliation and interfaith forums. Munther originally studied civil engineering at Birzeit University in Palestine. He then obtained a Master in Biblical Studies from Westminster Theological Seminary and a PhD from the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies.

On Gaza & Being Jewish

Rich Siegel was raised Jewish and was an ardent Zionist growing up who became the president of a student Zionist organization. He moved to Israel in his twenties and worked there for a while. A job offer brought him back to the US and led him to ultimately reject Zionism and become an activist for peace and justice for Palestinians. Christians Who Love War for Israel

This video was made 14 years ago when We Hold These Truths held a vigil at the Christians United For Israel (CUFI) "Night to Honor Israel" event in Phoenix, AZ. Back then attendees interviewed told us they supported the wars in the Middle East to protect Israel. Nothing has changed since then, Zionised Christians still believe that wars are necessary to protect Israel. After the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel when they broke out of the world's largest open-air prison the rhetoric has now changed to "We must eradicate the evil Hamas". Of course, there is no concern by Israeli supporters about the now over 19,000 Palestinians that have been killed by Israel's vindictive siege on Gaza. About 70% of the victims are innocent women and children. To prove their continued support for Israel, Cornerstone Church led by John Hagee held on October 22, 2023, a "Night to Honor Israel" event described in the article "A San Antonio Megachurch Plays an Outsized Role in Supporting Israel's War Efforts" in the Texas Monthly.

Max Blumenthal with The Gray Zone has been a long-time supporter of justice for the Palestinians. In Killing Gaza, journalists Dan Cohen and Max Blumenthal documented Israel’s 2014 war on Gaza. This film is a chilling visual document of war crimes committed by the Israeli military, featuring direct testimony and evidence from the survivors. And, now in 2023, the Israeli genocidal, retribution attack on Gaza pales what it did in 2014. In this 6-minute interview, Max talks about the influence of the Christian Zionist lobby led by Christians United For Israel which was formed with the aid of Israel. 

How Hamas Got Israel To Show Its True Colors

The October 7, 2023 attack inside Israel has resulted in an unprecedented and genocidal reaction by Israel that eclipses their four previous assaults on Gaza. Over 7,000 Palestinians have been killed. Almost half were children. This video by Stop World Control was made after the Hamas attack and is quite revealing. It's entitled "The Mystery of Israel - Solved."

People and the Land - Understanding the Israel/Palestine Conflict

The world seems to be backing Israel without question on the recent violence committed against them by Hamas forces that broke out of Gaza (the world's largest open-air prison) and attacked. Sadly, there were civilian casualties on both sides. Such actions are as horrific as were the three previous Israeli, collective punishment "wars" in Gaza that targeted civilians. Violence only begets more violence. Our beltway pundits and the mainstream media have called the attack by Hamas "Unprovoked". This would indicate that Israel has not provoked Palestinians in the past. The documentary People and the Land: The Story of A People Under Occupation was made in 1997 and funded by PBS but was prevented from airing on public TV. This documentary delves into the history of the conflict and is a valuable reminder that the Zionists have been provoking Palestinians for over 75 years.

 

 

Choose Life Not War: The Abortion Issue

Recently, the US Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade case of 1973 that allowed abortions. Now, the decision on this issue will go back to the states. Before Chuck Carlson founded We Hold These Truths in 1996, he and his wife were active in the pro-life movement. When We Hold These Truths started challenging "Christian Zionist" or War-Willing" churches in 2002, one of the earliest signs that we carried at those vigils was "Chose Life, Not War!" While evangelical church members typically oppose abortion, large numbers of them enthusiastically support the serial wars of the US for patriotic reasons. In this 2004 message, "Abortion: A Kingdom of God Approach" by Pastor Greg Boyd of Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, MN the issue of abortion is addressed that can be seen in a new light in 2022. This was the third of five messages in a series entitled "The Cross and The Sword". It was about how many Christians have welded the cross to the sword. As citizens of the United States of America, the state wheels the sword while Christians are supposed to be under the authority of Jesus Christ. As a result of this series of messages, about 20% of the 5000 congregants in Boyd's church left because they couldn't handle the message. CNN did an excellent report on this in a 7-minute segment titled "God's Warriors"

American Christians, Israel and Zionism

In this video, our founder, Charles E. Carlson speaks about his solo walk-in visit to the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip in March 2002. There he witnessed and filmed an Israeli bombing raid from the roof of a building owned by the Southern Baptist Convention. Chuck gave this account to members of the Institute for Historical Review two years later. The video account of this bombing raid can be seen in our documentary, “The Roots of Christian Zionism: How Scofield Sowed Seeds of Apostasy”. In the second segment of this 50-minute talk, he explains Zionist Christian's distortion of the bible and why its followers support Israel despite its documented brutality toward the Palestinians. Christian Zionism" The Tragedy & The Turning, Part I

We Hold These Truths has been working for peace in the Holy Land since 2002. This documentary was made to challenge Christians who believe that the modern state of Israel is a fulfillment of biblical prophecy even to the exclusion of Palestinian Christians living there. Our 29-minute documentary was recognized as a contribution to peace by being given a special award at the 4th Ammar Popular Film Festival in Tehran, Iran,  in January 2014.  This film exposes what should be three, obvious truths:  1. The US has a war based economy that is dependent upon the support for its many wars by Christians under the influence of Christian Zionism.  2. Christian Zionism is a corruption of traditional Christianity that has been promoted for just over 100 years, through the Scofield Reference Bible. 3. The Palestinians have been under a brutal military occupation by Israel since 1967.  An example of this brutality was an Israeli attack on Gaza that killed four and wounded 40 in 2002, which was witnessed, videoed, and reported by Charles E. Carlson, the Writer/Director of this documentary.  This attack was four years before Hamas came to power and the 3 devastating wars on Gaza in 2008/2009, 2012, and 2014  The last major assault on Gaza in 2014, “Operation Protective Edge” resulted in over 2,000 Palestinians killed of whom were 500 children. This planned operation has turned into a genocidal assault on Gaza with the Israelis bombing hospitals and schools, and civilian casualties hovering around 75% of the total while destroying the infrastructure of the world’s largest, open-air prison (Bob Simon of CBS News described Gaza this way in 2009 in an interview with Charlie Rose). Today, Gaza is on the brink of being uninhabitable.

Israel has perfected Hasbara, "a form of propaganda aimed at an international audience...It is meant to influence the conversation in a way that positively portrays Israeli political moves and policies, including actions undertaken by Israel in the past. Often, Hasbara efforts include a negative portrayal of the Arabs and especially of Palestinians" (+972 Magazine). Chris Hedges on the RT program, "On Contact" talks to journalist and filmmaker Abby Martin and producer Mike Prysner about their new film Gaza Fights for Freedom which focuses on the Palestinian Great March of Return protests during which nearly 200 people were killed and 10,000 men, women and children were wounded ("approximately 1,200 patients will require long-term limb reconstruction"). Revealed in the documentary is the use of frangible or"exploding" bullets by the Israeli Defense Force that magnifies the damage done by a bullet wound. Listening to Living Stones of the Holy Land: Palestinian Christians

The vast majority of Christians visiting the Holy Land of Israel, only visit the "Dead Stones" sites like the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem built over the site where it is believed to be where Jesus was born in a manger. The "Living Stones," the Palestinian Christians, who live there are only heard by a fraction of the tourists to Israel. Dr. Darryl DelHousaye, Chancellor of Phoenix Seminary asked Tom Compton of We Hold These Truths to provide a video with messages from "Living Stones of the Holy Land" that will serve as a supplement for members of the tour that he is leading to Israel. Open Bethlehem

We say, “Open, Bethlehem!” Sure, tourists can still enter Bethlehem from Jerusalem by transiting the wall and checkpoint that separates Israel from occupied Palestine. Most of the Christians visiting the Holy Land have been conditioned to fear and mistrust Palestinians, even Palestinian Christians. Typically, a tour bus drops the pilgrims off at one of the “dead stones” sites in the Holy Land, like the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. Rarely, do these pilgrims get to interact with the local, Palestinian Christians, the “living stones,” to hear the other side of the story. Palestinian, Leila Sansour, documents how her home town, Bethlehem, is being walled in. "One Day in Gaza" - The Documentary Blocked by Israeli Lobby

"One Day In Gaza" is a BBC documentary that has been shown in the UK, but was cancelled by PBS in the US. It was scheduled to air on May 14, 2019, the anniversary of the "Gaza March of Return" massacre, that occurred one year earlier. Sixty Palestinians in Gaza were killed and On May 14,, 2018, the same day as the dedication of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem. This documentary shows both sides of what took place but there is too much damning documentation about Israel's action's that Israeli partisans don't want Americans to know about. The contention of the WHTT podcast, "Does Israel Have a Shoot to Cripple & Maim Policy Against Palestinians?" by Chuck Carlsono, is confirmed by "One Day In Gaza." An excellent analysis of the documentary is done by Alison Weir of If Americans Knew, "View the Frontline Documentary on Gaza that PBS pulled."

The Struggle to Save Al-Aqsa and the Holy Land

Filmmaker, Karriem Shabazz, lived and worked, for 15 years, in Syria and traveled throughout the region. To do his part for peace, Karriem wanted to relate the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Using remarkable archival video footage that he obtained from research in the region, Karriem created a compelling documentary about the little known history of what happened in the Holy Land during the past 100 years. The people of Palestine do not deserve to be forgotten or neglected. Deliberately misinformed and deceived, Americans are responsible for, and are the only people who can stop the injustice, apartheid and genocide that is being committed in this Holy Land, against the innocent people of the ancient Biblical land of Samson and Delilah, and David and Goliath. "The Struggle to Save Al-Aqsa and the Holy Lands" begins with the father of Zionism, Theodore Hertzel and ends with the last Intifada when Prime Minister Ariel Sharon provoked this bloodbath of innocent children in 2001. This film documents the impact of the spy T.E. Lawrence, Lord James Arthur Balfour, the British Evangelical Zionists, the League of Nations and the United Nations. Also, this film chronicles the massacres perpetrated by the “Israeli” occupation force, to steal more land and eliminate more of the people of Palestine. These massacres have defined the longest occupation in history from 1948 in Kafr Qasim through the 1950s, 60s and 70s to the massacre of women and children at the UN outpost in Qana, Lebanon 48 years later and is still ongoing.

New York Times Investigates the Killing of Palestinian Medic Rouzan al-Najjar in Gaza

The New York Times has done something remarkable by producing a 17 minute video, investigation report about the killing of Palestinian medic Rouzan al-Najjar during a protest in Gaza on June 1, 2018 as reported in their article, "A Day, a Life: When a Medic Was Killed in Gaza, Was It an Accident?" Rouzan was not protesting, but rushing to aid a wounded demonstrator. According to Mark Regev, Israeli ambassador to Britain, "... and we [Israel] only use live fire in a measured and surgical way." David Keyes, an Israeli government spokesman assured us that, "Israel only targeted people who are actively engaged in violence." And Michael Oren, an American born Israeli and a former Israeli ambassador to the US, claimed, "We [Israel] have a very specific record of every shot fired." Texas Fires Speech Therapist for Not Signing the Israel Loyalty Oath

In this revealing, 3 minute interview with Bahia Amawi by the Intercept, she explains why the state of Texas would not renew her contract as a speech therapist in the Austin, Texas school district because she would not sign the "Israeli Loyalty Oath" clause of a 2017 billed passed in Texas. Twenty five other states have passed similar legislation. The Intercept "asked if she considered signing the pledge to preserve her ability to work. Bahia Amawi told The Intercept: “Absolutely not. I couldn’t in good conscience do that. US Zionists Get Black Political Commentator Fired by CNN

Political commentator for CNN, Marc Lamont Hill, has been fired by CNN for speaking about freedom and justice for Palestinians, in an address given at the United Nations, not on CNN. Numerous, influential Zionists cried foul to CNN and claimed that Mr Hill's remarks were anti-Semitic. Judge for yourself by watching Mr. Hill's impassioned, 21 minute address, where he gives an excellent overview of the situation in occupied Palestine and describes the racial discrimination policies by Israel against Arab citizens of Israel. Ron Paul Lashes Out at Trump Admin Over Iran Starvation Policy

Retired, constitutional Congressman Ron Paul is asking a question about the Trump administration’s ‘neoconservative’ policy regarding how to handle the situation with Iran: Is it normal? In this powerful, 4 minute video, Ron Paul notes: "It’s not often that US Government officials are honest when they talk about our foreign policy. The unprovoked 2003 attack on Iraq was called a “liberation.” The 2011 US-led destruction of Libya was a “humanitarian intervention.” And so on. So, in a way, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was refreshingly honest last week when, speaking about newly-imposed US sanctions, he told the BBC that the Iranian leadership “has to make a decision that they want their people to eat.” It was an honest admission that new US sanctions are designed to starve Iranians unless the Iranian leadership accepts US demands. His statement also reveals the lengths to which the neocons are willing to go to get their “regime change” in Iran. Just like then-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said it was “worth it” that half a million Iraqi children died because of our sanctions [in the 1990's] on that country, Pompeo is letting us know that a few million dead Iranians is also “worth it” if the government in Tehran can be overthrown.

Is there any sense in the independence of one at the expense of the fundamental rights of the other? Can the Jewish people whose history is a record of continued suffering and relentless persecution, allow themselves to be indifferent to the rights and suffering of a neighboring people? Can the State of Israel allow itself an unrealistic dream of an ideological end to the conflict instead of pursuing a pragmatic, humanitarian one based on social justice?"  

Israel's Perverse Profusion of Prevarications-The Need To Lie

Israel is very proud of its legal system that so cleverly denies building permits to Palestinians, but legitimizes illegal (under international law) Israeli settlements in the West Bank of Palestine. A case in point is the Bedouin village of Khan al-Ahmar that is slated for demolition. Professor Frank Romano found out the consequences of non-violent protesting against the destruction of this village. Professor Romano explains beautifully in this 2 1/2 minute video. Flying High in Gaza

Under a blockade and siege since 2007, children in Gaza don't have many fun things to do. One very popular activity is kite flying. In 2011, over 13,000 kites were flown in Gaza to break a Guinness World Record. This one minute report by ABC, tells the poignant story. During the recent "The Great March of Return" protests in Gaza, starting in March, about 150 people have been killed and over 2000 people have been wounded by Israeli snipers. To fight back, some Palestinian protesters in Gaza decided to try out "armed" kites and helium-filled balloons as weapons that have ignited some Israeli farmlands (see here & here). After all, Gaza is the world's largest open air prison and some of the inmates aren't too happy about the ongoing Israeli economic blockade that is slowly strangling Gaza to where it will be unlivable by 2020 (see here).

Protesters Greet Ivanka Trump During California Stop

We Hold These Truths' California, Central Valley, Outreach Director, Dave Jacobs, spotted media at the Fresno, CA airport, while he was driving by. He found out that President Donald Trumps' daughter, Ivanka was arriving in Fresno for a Republican fundraising luncheon. Dave retreived his signs and went back to the airport to greet Ivanka and her entourage. Chants of "No More Wars For Israel" can be heard on the video report showing Ivanka leaving the airport. With some super sleuthing, Dave was able to find out where Ivanka was heading for lunch. Then, Dave and his crew showed up at the offices of Harris Construction with some other protestors. This got reported in local TV news reports (1 min. 18 seconds).
